DAY 1: Port Arthur & Tasmanian Devils

Today is action-packed and fast-paced as we combine two of Tasmania's iconic experiences: a Tasmanian Devil feeding and time to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site.

After an early departure from Hobart, we drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula, home to Australia's highest sea cliffs and fascinating convict history. We enjoy panoramic views from Pirates Bay Lookout before passing through Eaglehawk Neck and "The Dogline," where our guides share captivating stories of the area's past.

Then we begin one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks – a short but spectacular track along the Waterfall Bay Clifftop. Experience the dramatic coastal scenery as you walk above the crashing Tasman Sea.

Next stop: the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. Watch the snarling, fighting, and bone-crushing spectacle of devilish behavior during feeding time. Hand-feed the wallabies and walk among native fauna and flora in this charming "Unzoo" setting.

Continuing our journey, we arrive at Port Arthur Historic Site. With around 2.5 hours on site, you'll have time to explore this open-air museum of Australia's convict past. Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead, 'The Port Arthur Experience' podcast, and site talks led by expert guides. Discover the grim history of this "inescapable prison" as you walk among the main penitentiary, solitary confinement cells, and countless historic buildings.

On our return to Hobart, we travel via Richmond Historic Village, home to Australia's oldest bridge (built by convicts in 1823), charming Georgian architecture, and quaint cafes. Return to Hobart around 6:00pm.

Overnight: Hobart. Accommodation by your own arrangement.

DAY 2: Bruny Island Adventure – Hike, Highlights & Tastes

Bruny is an island off an island off an island! Famous for spectacular coastal scenery and local produce, today combines an amazing morning hike with an afternoon indulging in Bruny's delicious gourmet delights.

We set off early from Hobart to beat the crowds, taking a scenic waterside drive and 20-minute car ferry crossing to arrive on the island. Unlike the big bus tours that head straight to the lighthouse, we're here to hike and explore!

First up? A section of the Cape Queen Elizabeth trail – an easy-moderate 2-hour (6.5km) return coastal hike that delivers spectacular views from Mars Bluff of Miles Beach and the Bruny Island Arch, a mind-boggling natural rock formation. This walk through coastal heathland and over mostly flat terrain is what sets us apart – it's the perfect way to truly experience Bruny's wild beauty.

Next stop: The Neck – the narrow isthmus joining North and South Bruny Island. Climb the 279 stairs to Trugannini Lookout where you'll be rewarded with fantastic 360-degree views! We take a moment to explore and spot the penguin burrows among the sand dunes.

Learn about local history at Two Tree Point before relaxing for lunch at Adventure Bay, a sheltered stretch of white sand and blue waves with giant eucalyptus standing proud along the shore. You can relax on the beach with your own lunch, or enjoy lunch at the scenic Bruny Island Cruises Seafood Restaurant (own expense).

After lunch, it's time to discover why Bruny is a food lover's paradise! We make stops at:

  • Bruny Island Chocolate Company – award-winning handmade cream fudges and chocolate products

  • Bruny Island Honey – free tastings of natural island honey and delicious honey ice cream

  • Bruny Island Cheese Co. – artisan cheese-maker and brewer with cellar door tastings

  • Get Shucked Oyster Farm – fresh oysters produced in the pure waters of Great Bay

After a full day of hiking, scenery, beaches, and delicious island tastes, we return to Hobart around 5:00pm.
